18 August 2009 - While a lot of stonemasonry involves careful trowel work, sometimes larger volumes of mortar are more easily placed with a shovel, then spread by trowel.

First the outer stones are laid, then the inner core is filled in.

Even a rough stone wall requires careful and exact measurements in order to ensure a high quality end product, and to determine the exact placements for windows and doors.

Each of the wooden window frames are covered with a protective layer to prevent moisture from the mortar seeping into the wood.

Each of the 48 small square windows are set onto two bricks, to ensure that they are level.

Stonemasons build up the wall on both sides of the south door into the reconstructed Bell Barn.
