Original Bell Barn loft window shutters on display
22 April 2015 - The two original loft window shutters were salvaged during the Bell Barn's dismantling in April 2008. These shutters now hang inside the reconstructed round stone barn, on either side of the south entrance . The chevron pattern for nailing the boards on the exterior side is clearly visible in this photo. The wood forming the chevron was applied with the āVā pointing up, thereby allowing water to run down the wood towards the base, rather than pooling in the centre.
This shutter was originally located above the north entrance. Years of weathering, due to the prevailing northwest winds, has removed most of the original paint.
